International Federation on Ageing: 2020 Conference Update -1

IFA 2020 Features Three Health Focused Presidential Symposiums

Attending this event as in 2018, once again Change Rangers is a Conference Partner for the International Federation on Ageing (IFA) 2020 Conference Nov.1-3 in Niagara Falls, Canada. Rights Matter is this year’s title and under that, there are four major themes with global import where presentations will focus – Addressing Inequalities, Age-friendly Environments, Combating Ageism, and Enabling Functional Ability.

Over the last two months, the conference program development is further along and abstract submissions for presentations are open until June 30th. So far, the program format looks more tightly constructed than the last, with some interesting daily features called Presidential Symposiums that support three areas of health that the IFA has recently been highlighting in their global webinar series. This also reflects the IFA’s support for the World Health Organization (WHO) Decade of Healthy Ageing 2020–2030.

The three focused ninety-minute symposiums include:

The Social and Economic Value of Adult Vaccination: Why Prevention is Wealth – to facilitate learning and to promote dialogue on the importance of equitable immunization program strategies, and critical actions in addressing system-based barriers to adult immunization.

Vision Health: Innovation and Optimism 2020 – to highlight the critical importance of current and future trends in vision health and the impact on older people.

Brain Health: The Treatment for Dementia is Prevention – to raise the profile of the importance of current and future trends in brain health with presentations and a moderated discussion with global leaders in neuroscience, cognitive reserve, and ageing.

The importance of the vision health subject I can attest to, after my recent experience with cataract surgery after which the ophthalmologist detected some slight pressure and strongly recommended annual eye exams as a way of detecting possible future development with glaucoma, which can occur with people who have that pressure issue after cataracts.
