Welcome to 2025 with my 12th Annual Conference Round Up edition related to the field of ageing and longevity. As I mention every year, many conferences take place with global or regional reach, and I tend to avoid featuring events that are overtly commercial, but rather those that are professional or academic in nature that cover social, health and gerontology aspects.
Many events don’t make this opening list, but I do feature these as they pop up throughout the year. Special Note. As of this date the Canadian Association on Gerontology (CAG) has yet to announce its dates for their 54th annual conference which usually takes place in October
March 14-16 Virtual & In Person from Berlin, Germany
For a 2nd year, earlier date than 2024, this gathering features researchers, scientists, post-grads, non-profits and government agencies. A scientific committee representing universities from Estonia to Egypt, Ghana to India and beyond are accepting abstract submissions until Feb.21 on an enormous range of topics – 72 in all. Here are five as an example from the list on the website: Aging & Clinical Trials, Elder Abuse, Law and Rights, Housing and built environment, Older People in Advertising & Mass Media, and Social Gerontology.
March 24 – 29 Virtual& In Person from Tokyo, Japan
In partnership with the International Academic Forum’s IAFOR Research Centreat Osaka University and the US-based National Archive of Computerized Data on Aging (NACDA) this 11th annual conference attracts half its audience from East and Southeast Asia. One of the six subject streams of note to me again is Built Environment (Housing, Neighbours and Healthcare Design)and an example of one presentation is titled – Personality Traits and Behavioral Intentions in Intergenerational Co-Housing: A Comparative Study of University Students and Older Adults.
The central aim of the 71st year’s ASA conference is to focus on the importance of culture change, promote positive representations of aging and foster intergenerational understanding. Within the 16 theme areas there are numerous, sometimes repetitive sounding sessions and indeed niche topics to choose from that makes it a task to sort through on the website’s Schedule tab. For a 2nd year a special stream – On Tech @ On Aging is woven into the ASA conference program.
The 54th BSG conference program suggests 12 topic areas on what is called a non-exclusive list which include for example: Ageing in a global context, Business, ageing and community, Social participation, citizenship & the welfare state & Arts and Culture. BSG abstract submissions are still accepted up to Jan. 24th, so if you are keen, snap to it – and whatever you submit, it is recommended it ties in with the main theme.
July 10 – 14 Virtual & In Person from London, England
In its 5th year, this event is produced by the International Academic Forum (IAFOR) Research centre, partnered with The Bartlett Real Estate Institute at UCL and The National Archive of Computerized Data on Aging (NACDA) at University of Michigan. Based on interdisciplinary research the conference examines international issues relating to the aging population worldwide with thematic streams covering areas such as the built environment, frailty, resilience, lifespan health promotion, public policy and the silver economy. Final date for abstracts is April 18.
YEBO/YES! Action on Ageing: Evidence | Policy | Practice
Bi-annually the IFA typically holds its conference in different global regions, and from Thailand in 2023 it now moves to South Africa in 2025.
Of the 9 conference themes, three strike a chord for our current economic times: Building capacity in lower- and middle-income countries, Connecting Ageing and the Economy & Family, Intergenerational Dynamics.
Those first two are interconnected and should make for an important dialogue. Deadline for submissions is April 30th.
Oct. 22 – 24 Virtual & In Person – Norrköping, Sweden
Aging, Intergenerational Solidarity and the Polycrisis.
Aging & Social Change Research Network – 15th Interdisciplinary Conference has four core academic areas in their scope to which you can submit a presentation: Economic & Demographic Perspectives on Aging, Public Policy & Public Perspectives on Aging, Medical Perspectives on Aging, Health & Wellness and Social & Cultural Perspectives on Aging. Regular Proposal deadline – July 25th and Sept.18th is the digital media deadline.
Teaming up with its US affiliate LeadingAge this year’s one day event will dialogue around sustainable care models and workforce development, person-centered approaches and technological integration to name a few. Deadline for abstracts is March 1st.
