Today marks the 3rd anniversary of the weekly Change Rangers Blog. Pop a cork!
While some have asked “have you reached ‘Blog Guru’ status?”, that’s not what it’s about. Blogs are about generating ideas and conversation. When I first entertained blogging as an activity in 2001, (in a previous rendition of a web site) the effort was abruptly halted soon after by a technology glitch (which could have been fixed), but truthfully it was largely because my conversational focus was changing.
So when ideas migrated from what I then called “career longevity”, to the macro matter of longevity itself; it took several years of investment in thought re-framing, research, real time conversation, inviting myself to new networks and re-branding; to arrive at a new place and a new Blog in March 2011.
The person who helped me design my first web site/blog said “the more you give away, the more will come back to you.” Ideas he meant. Yes, getting paid as a result of idea sharing is a nice bi-product. Then I found this quote by Jeffrey Zeldman from the Design world some time later: “Don’t worry about people stealing your design work. Worry about the day they stop.”
Envision the Promise of Longevity. That is the ask. Not looking for prescriptive answers. Not fishing for a sale. Simply looking for a forum to provoke – conversation that might even make a difference in how we respond (on several dimensions) to new challenges and opportunities of living extended lifetimes.
