Social Prescribing, an international movement that continues to grow, still suffers from not enough public awareness; and as a person who has been following the narrative for over three years now, my contribution continues to be one of educator and advocate.
So it’s timely to promote March 19, 2025 – Social Prescribing Dayin Canada, hosted by theCanadian Institute for Social Prescribing (CISP) which is an inter-sectoral collaboration initiative of the Canadian Red Cross. For those of you unfamiliar with Social Prescribing, let’s begin with a brief definition, one of several in the world where the concept is still at various stages of development. Applying here the one on the CISP website, this concept is described in part as:
“…a person-centred approach that fosters self-determination by supporting individuals to create their own pathways to holistic well-being. Health care professionals and social service providers work collaboratively with clients to connect them with services that support basic needs, social, emotional well-being and that foster community belonging.”
In order to stretch out the messaging period, CISP is making this year Social Prescribing Week by presenting three open virtual learning events to which you can sign on to as follows:
Signing on to this last date, actually connects you to a series of six sessions over several months into 2026 and an opportunity to explore and discuss ongoing social prescribing developments in Canada with the opportunity for topic-specific networking and collaboration.
